Educator - Hospice in your Care Home
22 hours per week, 12 Months Fixed Term
£16,496 - £17,870 per annum (pro rata of £27,744-£30,055 per annum)
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity, which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced health or social care professional with a special interest in education and palliative and end of life care, to join the innovative Hospice in Your Care Home service during a period of exciting project work.
This educational service provides care home, and other health and social care staff with evidence-based knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to support their patients/ residents at the end of their life. The team aims to enhance the care of patients, residents and families across nursing and residential care settings, by providing high facilitation and role modelling to the workforce, and acting as a support system and resource to ensure care is timely, appropriate and reflects the preferences of the individual and their loved ones.
The Educator role will include the planning, delivery and evaluation of specific palliative and end of life care education programmes across diverse care settings including engagement with learning disability teams, extra care and supported living services and staff working with the local homeless population. This work will include clinical skills and communication skills workshops, and direct support to care staff providing care to individuals in the last few days and weeks of life and supporting the people important to them.
The core hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions when you are required to work flexibly i.e. evenings, to meet the needs of the service.
Suitable candidates will hold a first level registered general nurse qualification. The successful post holder should have post-registration experience working in a palliative care or relevant environment, a commitment to the development of professional practice and the delivery of quality care, evidence of teaching others within their current or previous roles, excellent communication skills and leadership qualities and an understanding of the care home sector.

The available role
We are looking to appoint to one 22 hour a week post (3 days per week). Working hours are usually 09.00am-5.00pm however on occasion you will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. This post will be fixed term for 12 months.
