Outlined below are some of the areas you can gain experience in, all of which you will be provided with training, support and valuable feedback along your journey.
The successful participant will meet and greet customers, ascertain customers’ needs and wants, assisting customers in locating desired items, informing customers of shop promotions to encourage purchases (active sales), ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales and service, addressing and resolving customers queries or complaints in a professional manner.
The participant will also be involved in sales related duties such as manage point-of-sale processes, ensuring all products are priced with the relevant shelf edge label, processing customer payments using the shop's Electronic Point of Sale till system (EPOS), setting up and maintaining the availability of promotional products, including reviewing bestselling lines through the company’s reporting system.
Maintain outstanding store condition and merchandising principles, implementation of planograms, stock availability checks and maintaining a fully stocked store, recommend and display items that match customer needs, performing end-of-day cleaning duties (includes wiping down windows, mirrors, and fixtures as well as sweeping and mopping the shop floor).
Receiving, processing, and checking of deliveries, restocking out of stock or low lines whilst ensuring that the sales floor is organised according to the" McColl's Way" guidelines. Stock Rotation and order procedures using the internal systems.
Basic Health and safety retail understanding and training assessment, risk Assessments/Site Activity Logbook, manual Handling/Slips trips and falls/Fire safety Retail training.

Shift patterns are bespoke to each branch, hours range from 7am to 11pm, 25hrs pw within these hours
ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
Apprentice Team Ltd will act as an intermediary for the employer and support in the delivery of employability and wrap-around support provided to participants.
Allocated work coach will provide dedicated one to one initial advice and guidance up on referral for the vacancy which will include overview of the scheme, assessment of participant support needs, development of career plan and support with the application completion and CV preparation in the initial registration phase.
Prior to interviews, ATL work coach will provide support and guidance in relation to interview techniques, mock interviews and confidence building and final interview preparation to ensure participants readiness for the interview.
To ensure participants make an immediate impact, they will be provided with guidance and training in relation to workplace behaviours, health & safety in the workplace, equality & diversity and work placement readiness.
On the job training will be delivered by branch managers and team leaders and participants will be provided with a workplace buddy / mentor. Participants will receive a workplace induction, product and branch training as per the job description. Branch managers will provide reviews and continuous feedback throughout the scheme to ensure participants build the skills and knowledge required for the job role.
ATL work coach will conduct scheduled review meetings with the participant throughout the scheme to monitor progress and welfare, identify and provide additional support where required. Post scheme support will include CV review and update guidance, job search, vacancy matching, reference gathering, application support, scheme review and career action plan with links to progression routes and employment opportunities
