The Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has a vacancy for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work in the Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion department. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the single discipline shift system. Training as required will be provided to complete all duties and support for CPD is available.
Biomedical Scientists (BMSs) contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing and interpreting a range of scientific procedures on biological specimens using highly complex equipment. This post operates throughout Blood Sciences (Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion), in conjunction with the Registrant Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Support Workers. Day to day supervision of these staff groups and a particular area of the laboratory is included in the job role. It covers core and Out of Hours sessions as part of the 24 hour service provided by the laboratory. The post holder will have in depth experience of their discipline (and Blood Sciences after suitable training) and be registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
The Blood Sciences Department is based within the modern and well-equipped Great Western Hospital. The site is easily accessible from all major routes. The laboratory has full UKAS ISO 15189 Accreditation for Blood Sciences integrated across the disciplines. It is MHRA Accredited for Blood Transfusion The department carries out a range of automated and semi-automated tests, including haemoglobin variant analysis A Sysmex suite with Di60 is available for Full Blood Count Work The Department is fully computerised with CliniSys WinPath being updated to Enterprise edition with our Network South 4 partners. The lab in 2019 went over to a Sysmex suite with Di60 is available for Full Blood Count Work and also he same year Werfen coagulation analysers. It was the same year we moved over to new Ortho grouping analysers.
