Summary


The Electronic Assistive Technology Service is a specialised centre for the assessment for and provision of Alternative and Augmentative Communication Aids (AAC) and Environmental Control and Computer Access within the East Midlands. We are seeking an Occupational Therapist with experience and skills in Electronic Assistive Technology to join our multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will contribute to the assessment of and equipment provision for a wide variety of adults and children with long term complex conditions.

The post holder will ideally have had experience of working with people with complex needs who require AAC or Environmental Controls / Assistive Technology. You will be familiar with high level assessment and bring a range of AAC / EC solutions to meet individual needs. However, we welcome applications from Occupational Therapists with related skills and experience and an interest in assistive technology who are committed to quickly developing the necessary specialist knowledge and skills.
• To contribute to multidisciplinary assessment of both adults and children with complex physical disabilities and to perform single professional assessments with less complex individuals.
• To recommend for solutions and equipment for individuals to increase their independence both in their environment and their communication.
• To participate as appropriate in the installation of assistive technology solutions where appropriate alongside other team members
• To advise both staff within the service and externally regarding matters of functional use of devices for activities of daily living.
• To contribute to service improvement projects and where delegated, take on responsibility for aspects of service development and monitoring as required.

The Electronic Assistive Technology Service is a multi-disciplinary team based in North Hykeham near Lincoln, but travelling across the East Midlands including Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. The team consists of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists, Assistant Speech and Language Therapists and Technology Assistants. There are excellent training opportunities available within the department and the trust. The trust offers a wide variety of well being initiatives to support staff.
