Are you looking for your first step in a career in media and communications? At Historic England, we’re looking for a creative self-starter with an interest in heritage and a passion for telling stories. As a Media Assistant at Historic England you’ll help us tell the world about the vital work we are doing to champion and protect our nation’s most cherished heritage. Working with both our national and regional communications teams you’ll get the opportunity to help write and pitch stories to national, regional and local media. No communications experience is necessary but you’ll need to strong writing skills and a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and journalists.

The Media Assistant will work across the national media team, and the regional public engagement team. The Assistant will support the national media team on news stories and the day-to-day running of the press office. The Assistant will also help the regional public engagement team develop and pitch regional and local stories.

The main duties and responsibilities will be:
Copywriting / editing
Working on press / digital campaigns
Producing summaries of media coverage
Assisting with analysis/evaluation of media coverage and social media engagement
Pitching stories to media
Creating image galleries and drafting captions

Good knowledge of computer operating systems, specifically Microsoft programmes.

You enjoy actively listening and questioning where necessary. You enjoy establishing relationships, seeking to support and help others. You enjoy coming up with new and different approaches to a task. You enjoy conveying thoughts and ideas through the written word

Working across 4 days. Time and days are flexible and will be determined at interview

Historic England is procuring an external organisation to deliver the key Wrap Around Skills and Development Training for this scheme as set out by the DWP. Intuitive Thinking Skills will provide both face to face and e-learning modules that will complement the employees learning styles. The employees will also have access to a range of wellbeing support to aid them in achieving their placements at Historic England. This will be provided by both the external training provider and Historic England’s own development platform.

Employees will also have access to Historic England’s training platform (FUSE) where additional organisational H&S compliance related training can be accessed. This platform also provides additional training resources, wellbeing classes, exercises and forum groups aiding social interaction and personal development.

Post placement all employees will be signed up to the Good Youth Charter which forms part of the Youth Employment UK charity. This will provide young people further access to personal skills developments and careers advise.
