We are recruiting for a Trainee Branch Assistant to help with the smooth running of our branch. This is a varied role in which you will learn a wide range of skills required to support our sales and operations functions.

You will learn the how the warehouse teams support the smooth running of the branch. First and foremost, you will be given health and safety training and you will be expected to practice safe working at all times. This will enhance your awareness. You will receive, unload and sign for goods, learning the importance of checking orders carefully and why safe, careful and accurate storage is important. This will develop your ability to look consider the bigger picture. You will learn what actions to take when an order is incorrect, or when goods are damaged.

You will engage with customers both over the phone and face to face, take and prepare orders and provide a first line customer service. This will build on your customer service, telephone and rapport building skills and will develop your confidence. You will also gain good knowledge of construction products.

You will learn the importance of carrying out routine stock checks and you will learn how to carry out daily checks on mechanical handling equipment, such as forklifts, to ensure they are in a good and safe working order.

You will help keep the warehouse, yard and stock in a clean and tidy condition which will develop your awareness.

You will be working in a busy and varied environment which will enable you to develop your team working, flexibility and prioritisation skills.

SKILLS NEEDED
You will demonstrate good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise your workload. You will be a good team worker with a flexible approach.

WORKING HOURS
Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 5.00pm. Actual hours to be agreed with recruiting manager

HOURLY RATE
National Minimum Wage.

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
Before their start, the placements will receive an introduction to the business and what to expect for their first day. This will also include what we expect from them - starting the introduction to basic work skills.
During their first week each placement will be given a site induction, health and safety training (including Covid safety), a company induction and a culture and values session.
Placements in the warehouse will include forklift training and all placements will have access to our online learning platform, which hosts a suite of work skills and product training and is accessible at any time. They will also be able to join any of our weekly opt in live training sessions, which include product training, mental health awareness and workplace skills.

Through our training, all placements will receive training in CV building, job seeking, interview skills, workplace expectations, timekeeping, punctuality and attendance, collaboration, communication, confidence and resilience, personal brand, basic financial planning and basic IT skills.

This training will be delivered 1-2-1 or in small groups and through blended learning.

Towards the end of their placement, each person will be given a mock interview with one of our recruitment specialists to put into practice what they have learned. The interview will mirror a real interview and each candidate will have a detailed feedback session on their performance.
