You will be responsible for assistance in the day to day management of the charity shop which will include the management of volunteers, stock management, merchandising, health & safety and financial procedures.
The role involves assistance in the ongoing recruitment and training of a motivated team of volunteers.
As a supportive team player you will work cohesively with hospice staff and volunteers to positively promote the charity at any available opportunity
a) Assist Shop Manager in the recruitment, induction, training, and leading of a volunteer team, linked to agreed shop standards, policies and relevant legislation. Assist in fostering a positive team spirit through participation in regular team meetings.
b) Take responsibility for managing and delegating work to volunteers in the absence of the Shop Manager, providing adequate supervision to ensure satisfactory performance.
c) Actively support and promote all organisation initiatives/campaigns to promote awareness of the charity.
d) Be familiar with and comply with retail and organisational policy and procedures.
e) Ensure, so far as is reasonable practical, the health, safety and well being of staff, volunteers and others who may be affected by shop activities.
f) Act as a key holder to the shop unit and delegate key holding to other volunteers within procedural guidelines with effective training.
g) To provide best circumstances for the personal security of volunteers.
h) Assist in ensuring that security procedures are understood and implemented by all members of the shop team and volunteers.
i) Assist in ensuring that the Health & Safety policy & procedures are understood and implemented by all members of the team and visitors.
j) Develop and maintain an in depth knowledge of St Luke’s Hospice, its aims and objectives, service, culture and funding requirements. Endeavour to strengthen and promote the St Luke’s Hospice brand.
k) Monitor building structure and appliances and alert retail administration office of any potential problems/non compliance, in the absence of the Shop Manager.
l) Assist in the testing of fire alarms, emergency lighting and carrying out regular fire practices in the shop, taking responsibility in the absence of the Shop Manager.
m) Embrace the change and development of new technology in the shop, encouraging volunteers to attend up skilling sessions, where available.
n) Attend training courses as required, keeping abreast of industry standards, linked action plans & objectives.
This role will demand the movement of stock on a daily basis.
You may be asked to provide cover in other shops, from time to time, as far as is reasonable.
