JOB SUMMARY
Retail assistant position
This position is for 25 hours per week.
The role is in a health food and whole food shop and the primary responsibility is to serve customers.
This usually involves conversing with the customers on appropriate products.
Retail assistants, will need to weigh and measure loose goods for customers and deal with cash and card payments and must pay attention to the detail.
The shop also needs to be cleaned to a very high standard for health and safety reasons and all staff are responsible for this.
In addition, there is a requirement to accept deliveries of stock and put this on display, place orders and answer phone calls.
There is a requirement to lift some heavy bags and boxes of stock and the job will occasionally involve the use of a ladder to store and retrieve items.

The shop is located at:
37 North Street
Wareham
Dorset
BH20 4AD.
There is no parking available.
The hours of work will be 25 hours as agreed. The hours will need to be during the following time periods:
9am to 4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
9am to 3pm on Wednesday.

SKILLS NEEDED
The applicant needs to have an interest in health and fitness and enjoy conversing with customers

WORKING HOURS
Will be agreed but must be within the following and will always includea Saturday form 9am to 4.30pm: 9am to 4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9am to 3pm on Wednesday

Communication
There are always 2 people in the shop. The individual learn to communicate with their fellow team members and cutomers. By being in the shop, we can encourage an understanding of the importance of reading body language and becoming a good listener as many of our customers come in for a chat and company as much as for products.
We hold regular staff meetings and one to ones so that everyone has the opportunity to voice their opinion about what is working and where we need to improve.
Training
The training would include product knowledge, healthfoods and special dietary requirements.
How to use a till and cash up
How to take orders over the phone
How to place orders with supplier
How to take delivery of orders and store goods safely
Health and safety around working in a shop
Improve job prospects
For many of our customers there is a need for gentle questioning to discover what products they would most benefit from. This type of interaction is essential for interviews and success in future jobs.
An understanding of the importance of your customers both internal and external is essential in any job and would be a transferrable skill.
Working with rotas and being flexible to accommodate others is another key transferrable skill.
Many of our staff have had several jobs and would willingly support assistance with job applications, phone answering techniques and CV writing.
