Main Responsibilities & Duties
Respond to customer need through the provision of high quality services
Maintain the 40 acres of grounds to a high standard of presentation and agreed good horticultural practice To undertake: mowing different lawned areas; strimming of banks & areas which are difficult to access with a mower; hedge trimming a range of different hedging; maintaining beds shrub maintenance including pruning; mulching; static planters seasonal changes to planting regular checking of larger shrubs and trees, as appropriate, and identifying tree surgery required; spot weed killing; maintenance of hard areas & car parks
Liaises regarding work plans, cutting schedules, mowing and Health and Safety with Instructors, Centre Managers and Premises Manager
Prepares areas of the grounds for students activities according to the programme laid down by the Centre Managers
Undertake basic property maintenance to help ensure the Centre operates an efficient reactive service to faults and associated repair needs
Assist with planned property maintenance projects to continue and improve the standards of customer experience, such as painting
Undertakes routine maintenance tasks involving educational/activity equipment
Is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level and safe storage of fuel supplies for grounds machinery
Responsible for promoting the welfare of children and young people and where relevant support schools and early years settings in safeguarding children though being aware of relevant policies and procedures and understanding how to use these to ensure that children and young people are protected and all suspicions and allegations of abuse are taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately

Contacts & Relationships
Promote the highest standards of customer care at all times, operate with integrity and ensure that all staff are treated courteously Regular informal contact with other Kilve Court staff, students, parents, service personnel, delivery persons. Regular contact with students undergoing activity instruction.Relationships Communicates effectively with colleagues, liaising with colleagues over work scheduling around the Centres needs. liaising with contractors; providing information to management; liaising with colleagues over winter and inclement weather work

Would be expected to organise own transport to Kilve Outdoor Education Centre
DBS check required cost will be met by the council

National Minimum Wage

All Kickstart Placements will be offered a strong, bespoke package of wraparound support including training around professional skills, professional conduct and career planning
Managers will be given an initial session to train them in supporting their placement
During their 1st week all Kickstart placements will partake in E Learning on Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Intro to local Gov, Fire Safety and GDPR. They will also take part in a virtual induction session to learn the Do and Do nots of the workplace (such as attendance, time keeping, communication, teamwork and professional conduct). Ideally there will be a small group, so there are opportunities to interact and meet fellow kickstart placements
During the placement an external support and training company will be checking in with the manager every few weeks to track the training/support offered to each Kickstart placement with Manager Review targets (any successes, concerns, additional support needs etc)
There will be 3 separate training sessions towards the end of the placement in how to apply for a job including CVs, preparing for an interview and mock interviews
Alongside this we can offer Maths and English support for those who require it to help them progress their careers following kickstart. In terms of roles and responsibilities, these will vary depending on each placement but will give the Young Person a wide variety of experiences into different tasks associated with their workplace and team. Some placements will involve travel around the County and engagement with Somerset County residents. Some will be office-based assisting with administration tasks. Some will be working in the education sector, working with the Young People of Somerset and supporting them in their education, both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.
