Summary

Purpose of post:
1. Responsible for the daily running of the nursery whilst adhering to the policies and procedures of Stepping Stones day Nursery
2. To ensure the OFSTED guidelines and requirements for the national standards are adhered to
3. Ensure the effective recruitment of staff following the safer recruitment process and the induction process
4. To lead a team of professional workers and to ensure good practice always

Key areas:
1. Staff management, team building and development
2. Promote high standards of care for all children
3. To ensure all staff and volunteers sire fully aware of the safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures, including the whistle blowing
4. Be aware of current legislation, policies and procedures

Responsible to:
Proprietor

Main Duties:
1. To support the proprietor with administration as requested
2. Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the nursery
3. To lead a team of professionals and always ensure good practice
4. Supervise staff and students, conducting regular staff observations and carrying out supervisions and regular staff reviews recognising training needs, monitoring training and developing team work
5. Organise and carry out regular staff meetings
6. Ensure designated roles and in place and training kept up to date
7. Maintain staff ratios and ensure staff are deployed effectively
8. Keep records of accidents, incidents, fire practices and risk assessments and review regularly
9. Work in close partnership with parents/carers organising regular parents’ evenings
10. To promote the high standards of the setting always
11. To show parents/carers around the setting and send out information
12. To assist the proprietor in the setting and implementing the policies and procedures
13. To assist with the planning and organisation of the staff schedules and holiday rotas to ensure adequate staffing levels are always maintained
14. To keep monitor of children’s records and development being aware of high achievers and narrowing the gap
15. To ensure health and safety standards are met and stuff meet these requirements
16. To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are always maintained
17. To ensure a high-quality enabling environment for the children based on their current needs and interests
18. Ensure children's individual needs are met being aware of differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development
19. Offering children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disability, culture and linguistic backgrounds in particular challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed
20. To assist the proprietor with the upkeep of the building and equipment. Ensuring all equipment is well looked after
21. to assist the proprietor with action plans to ensure the nursery is maintaining high standards and being moved forwards
22. to actively promote and support the safeguarding of young children in the workplace, ensuring all staff and volunteers observe the settings policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm
23. any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the nursery proprietor

Skills, Aptitude, knowledge and experience:
1. experience in managing staff, motivating teams and recruiting staff members
2. an understanding of staff induction, super visions and the appraisal process
3. a commitment to the setting of high quality childcare with an interest in the care, learning and development of young children
4. Knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provisions
5. Of positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
