This Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship will be based in either Bedford Hospital or Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

The RNDA is a four-year course, which is designed to enable learners to remain in a substantive role and study at the same time whilst completing a level 6 BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Degree. The apprenticeship route provides a flexible, work-based approach combining university study and workplace learning to develop apprentices into a qualified Registered Nurse.

The training programme emphasises the role that apprentices can play in lifecourse (pre-conception to end of life) approaches towards health and well-being and the ways in which they actively contribute to the delivery of holistic care. Holistic care, across lifecourse, is a whole-person approach which considers, and equally values, physical, psychological and public health needs, learning disabilities, social, economic, spiritual and other factors in the assessing, planning and delivery of care.

All tuition fees will be covered and apprentices will receive a salary during the whole duration of the course whilst on the programme. Teaching takes place through lectures, seminars, workshop activities, online learning and work based learning, supported by a comprehensive programme of tutorial support.

Apprentices will rotate into placements within their own organisation, but will also need to rotate across care organisations within the local partnership. Apprentices will attend university and alternative placements and in addition will have a base placement where they will complete their full-time employment hours. Whilst in their base placement apprentices will carry out duties as a Health Care Assistant/Clinical Support Worker and will assist in the delivery of patient/client care and participate in the safe and effective management of the nursing services under the supervision of registered nurses.

The next programme will start in August 2021. Please note that the apprenticeship programme is subject to the NMC approval process being agreed. The academic aspect of the course will be provided by the Open University. Students will not be expected to travel to attend university. To apply for the apprenticeship you will need to be aged 18 or over at the start of the programme.
