We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our growing, awesome, elite team based in Ipswich, supporting our brilliant customers who all have learning disabilities and/or autism. Our innovative and unique service aims to work pro-actively to prevent people from being admitted to hospital in a crisis. We support our customers who are experiencing behavioural and/or mental health crisis within our registered specialist Admission Avoidance service. We also offer support in customers’ homes and in the community throughout Suffolk as an Urgent Outreach service. We are based very close to Chantry park in our brand new, purpose-built home. The new building is stunning, it has its own private car park with lots of spaces, the building is fitted with state of the art assistive technology, air conditioning, it has its own gardens and it is built on a huge field so we will have loads of space outside! Each customer will have their own, very spacious self-contained flat plus large communal areas to socialise.

We’re a very busy service, supporting our customers who are experiencing behavioural and/or mental health crisis to achieve their goals and aspirations using their bespoke, positive behaviour support plans. We work in partnership with a wide variety of social care and health professionals to aid an individual’s recovery. You’ll provide a variety of holistic support, so no two days are the same! You could be supporting someone to go to college or work, maybe going to music lessons or a football match, to arts and crafts, even just going walking in the countryside, anything that they enjoy that is engaging and therapeutic to their recovery. You could even find yourself enjoying a Netflix binge, one of our customers’ favourites!

If you’re a wizard at supporting people through difficult times who might engage in behaviours of concern, able to identify and act upon safeguarding issues, love to be busy every day and go home knowing you’ve made a positive change to someone’s life, then this is the job for you! You’ll constantly learn new things and be stretched professionally, emotionally, physically and practically, your learning will be immense!

About our team

You’ll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting our customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. Our brilliant manager is Hannah and she has worked for Home Group for over two years now. There are two Client Service Managers (Deputy) Leila and Kelvin, Support Coordinators and Support Workers within our local team. We’re not just there for our customers, we’re there for each other too! We know that the tough job we do is so worthwhile, and that’s what helps to keep our smiles and enthusiasm going throughout the day! There is never a dull moment and every day brings different magical unicorn moments and brain teasing challenges to overcome.

Working hours

We provide 24-hour support to our customers every day and night. You’ll work on a rota basis and take your turn working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you! The role also requires sleep in shifts and on standby shifts of which you will be paid extra. You may also be required to work night shifts as and when needed to cover our waking night colleagues during any absences.

About you

You’ll be super energised, with a positive can-do attitude, your empathy and creative spark will really shine through as will your ability to empower customers to reach their full potential. You’ll bring the skin of a Rhino and the heart of a Lion, which does not take away from the caring nature you display towards your colleagues and customers. You’ll have a practical understanding of safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality and support plans as well as the ability to empower customers from all different backgrounds. If you have no prior experience working in health and social care that’s ok, we like to get a good mix of experienced and shiny newbies with fresh eyes and perspectives.

If you have previous experience of working with a similar customer group this is awesome, if not, don’t worry as we’ll support you to develop your skills. You’ll ideally hold the Care Certificate/Level 2 in Health and Social Care, but if you don’t, we’ll support you to achieve this (and pay for it!).

This is an excellent opportunity if you’re looking for the next challenge. You’ll be trained within an inch of your life (so don’t worry about that) to gain a true understanding of our systems and to capture all the excellent outcomes we are going to achieve.

If you’re not the biggest fan of technology, that’s not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high-tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However, we’re glad to support you, if you need help.

As this is also community-based role, you’ll need to travel around to spend time with your customers. You could do this role using public transport, or if you drive and have access to a car that would also be amazing! (we pay your expenses to cover this use!)

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
