Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Medical Microbiology, or Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology based at The Hillingdon Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, clinically focused Medical Microbiologist or Infection Specialist jointly trained in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to join the Microbiology team of three Consultants (including this post), all of whom are based at The Hillingdon Hospital.

Microbiology laboratory services for the Trust are currently provided by the Microbiology and Serology laboratories at The Hillingdon Hospital, with some work done at the North West London Pathology (NWLP) Infection and Immunity Hub Laboratories at Charing Cross Hospital. The Hillingdon Hospital is committed to a partnership with NWLP for Pathology services, and the arrangement will take full effect later this year, following installation of the new Laboratory Information Management System. The NWLP Infection and Immunity Laboratories have UKAS accreditation.

There are opportunities to build the clinical service through Antimicrobial Stewardship, development of an Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Service, Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and additional ward presence.

Hillingdon Hospital is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including Accident and Emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. Hillingdon Hospital is the nearest Hospital to London Heathrow Airport and regularly receives emergencies from the airport, including patients with a variety of infectious diseases.

Our services are provided from both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital. The Trust has a turnover of around £250 million. We manage 614 inpatient beds and we employ over 3,300 staff. We deliver high quality healthcare to the residents of the London Borough of Hillingdon, and increasingly to those living in the surrounding areas of Ealing, Harrow, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, giving us a total catchment population of over 350,000 people.

As well as its proximity to Heathrow Airport, Hillingdon Hospital is close to the M4 and M25 motorways, has excellent public transport links and offers easy access to London's exceptional cultural facilities. It is close to excellent residential areas with good schools and open countryside.

All newly appointed Consultants are offered a mentor.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview. Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.

All applicants are required to provide the names and contact details of four referees. Three will be clinical referees, including one from the current employer (or most recent employer if not currently working) and the final referee will be your current Responsible Officer for revalidation Please note shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide an up to date CV for their interview.

Applications from Agencies will NOT be considered, therefore please do not send any directly to the department or Medical Staff.
