Plus, Brilliant Benefits!

This post is open to male applicants only, as being male is deemed to be a genuine occupational qualification under Section 29, Schedule 3 7 (27-7) of the Equality Act 2010.

Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home.

We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. The service supports our brilliant customers who have an individually designed support package specifically created to meet their mental wellbeing needs. The packages can include support to get out and about, re-engage with a hobby such as golf or fishing, support with shopping or just going out for a walk. Everyone is different!

Your base will be Belmont Durham and any mileage will be paid from there. You will support the customers from their own home predominately in the Durham area, but this may stretch further afield. We support the customers to engage in whichever activity is identified in their care plan. Each visit or activity can be different, one day you might be supporting someone to an allotment or to the gym, the next you might be assisting with some shopping. No two days will be the same!

Customer quote

"Having support has enabled me to do more for myself because the support workers know when to step back and facilitate instead of just doing things for me. It's been massively important for my routine during lockdown and has enabled me to maintain my independence."

About our team

You’ll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. Our Manager is Julie she’s been with Home Group for over 18 years and loves her coffee and cake! There are 22 of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! John is our Support Coordinator who leads and supports the personal budget team, you’ll be in good hands with him! Then there’s Layla who’s always smiling and is celebrating 10 years with Home Group in August. We also have Kayleigh who’s in the 2nd year of her apprenticeship she’s very creative and draws some amazing pictures!

Working hours

You’ll work flexibly to meet customer needs a minimum of 12 hours per week, primarily this will be weekdays between 9am-5pm, but occasionally weekend or early evening support might be required if the customer would like to attend an event or an activity out of hours. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

This role is for a male support worker. The customers that you will be supporting are all male and are looking forward for you to assist them with their chosen activities!

About you

You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. Ideally you will have some experience of working in a caring environment with great customer focus and a knowledge of safeguarding. But don’t dismiss it if not. Having a passion and drive to help others and enjoying supporting and participating in activities could make this the role for you! We help change our customer’s lives for the better. You’ll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers bespoke plans. Supported by the personal budget coordinator you’ll help our customers to reach their goals and aspirations.

If you’re not the biggest fan of technology, that’s not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high-tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However, we’re glad to support you, if you need help.

It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!

As this is a community-based role, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes. Don’t worry, we’ll pay you expenses to cover this use!

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
