The School of Mathematics at the University of East Anglia (UEA) wishes to appoint a Senior Research Associate (SRA), whose role will be to work within the research programme of Professor Emilian Parau in the area of nonlinear waves and free surface flows such as water waves, internal waves, waves under ice. The SRA will prepare and present research findings to peers, at conferences, to funders and by publication in high-quality journals and will assist in the writing and submission of grant applications to UKRI-EPSRC and other funding bodies. The SRA will also take on a small amount of teaching.

The Research Associate will be educated to PhD level in mathematics, physics or related with strong experience in solving nonlinear partial differential equation problems arising in water waves, internal waves, waves under ice, or more generally in fluid mechanics, using computational and asymptotic methods. As well as possessing a strong subject background, the appointee will have proven self-motivated research experience, with an ability to work independently as well as under guidance. The ability to plan one’s own research is essential, as are strong written and verbal communication skills. You must also be able to fulfil all essential elements of the person specification.
