Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists, ideally with IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent qualification. The successful candidate will work in all sections of Haematology (Automation, Coagulation, Special Haematology) and Blood Transfusion and will be expected to participate in the laboratory’s 24/7 out-of-hours service. The department is housed in a modern, purpose built laboratory and the successful candidate would be joining a busy but friendly team. We currently have Sysmex XN Full Blood Count analysers with Digital Morphology, Sysmex CS5100 Coagulation analysers, Benson’s Viscometers, Grifols Erytra Blood Grouping analysers and a Biorad Variant II analyser for Haemoglobinopathy Screening. The Blood Sciences laboratories have accreditation by UKAS under ISO 15189 and MHRA. We are approved by the IBMS as a training laboratory for both the registration portfolio, leading to HCPC registration and specialist portfolios.

You will be working for the largest Trust in the SW Region providing medical, surgical and maternity care for a population of approximately half a million people in the North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset areas. In May 2014 the Trust relocated the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe offering exemplary care in a beautiful and purpose built environment, designed with the patients privacy and dignity in mind.
Alongside this there has been significant investment and redevelopment of Pathology services with the building of new state of the art laboratories located in the Science Quarter at Southmead Hospital and the creation of Severn Pathology. The laboratory facilities accommodate all pathology disciplines including the Blood Sciences, Bristol Genetics Laboratory, a single Bristol Cellular Pathology Service and a combined Microbiology and Health Protection Agency service within one facility. Severn Pathology's aim is to provide a best in class, high quality, innovative, value for money pathology service that serves the needs of the healthcare market in the South West region and beyond.
North Bristol NHS Trust is located within one of the most vibrant cities in the UK. The BBC has named Bristol as the best places to live in the UK in 2017. Bristol is famous for its year-round festivals, award-winning cycle tracks, exceptional gastronomy, stunning cityscapes and awe-inspiring street art.
