Dorset HealthCare is the first mental health trust providing community services in the South to be given an Outstanding rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – and one of only a small handful nationally.
As part of our ongoing commitment to staff development and career progression within CAMHS, we are excited to be inviting applications for two new roles within community CAMHS. The community teams are looking to recruit 2 full timeRegistered Nurse Associatesto work across the county on a 12 month fixed term basis. One post holder will cover the two urban teams (Poole and Bournemouth & Christchurch) and the second post holder will work across the 4 rural teams (East Dorset, North Dorset, West Dorset and Weymouth & Portland teams). The post holders will be expected to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, offering therapeutic telephone calls to young people and families who are waiting for a formal therapeutic intervention as well as being involved in the delivery of therapeutic groups and working with a small caseload of young people and families (under the supervision of a Registered Nurse).
Previous experience of working with children is desirable but not essential for this post. Applicants without previous experience must be able to demonstrate an ability to transfer skills from previous experience to children and families.
We are proud to be part of the wider CAMH service in Dorset and all it has achieved in recent years, with its progress and developments being demonstrable. Currently our CAMHS community services are rated Good and our CAMHS inpatient unit is rated as Outstanding. We have been fast tracked by NHSE to deliver New Care Models providing a closer to home crisis home treatment service. We are also part of the national trailblazer to deliver Mental Health Support Teams in schools across 3 pilot sites in Dorset. In addition, NHSE have commissioned Dorset Healthcare to build a new state of the art 8 bed PICU.
Nationally CAMHS is under the spotlight; Dorset CAMHS has embraced this attention and has seized the opportunity to appraise how we offer core mental health services to the children, young people and families of Dorset and how we work together with our partner agencies in achieving this to a high standard. We have been able to identify areas for improvement and highlight areas of outstanding practice through this process. We continue to work hard on refining and developing the service to better meet the needs of our young people and their families and are looking for innovative and enthusiastic staff to join the evolution of Dorset CAMHS!
We currently provide the following CAMHS services across Dorset:
• CAMHS Gateway (covering Poole, Bournemouth & Christchurch)
• 6 Community CAMHS teams
• 10 Bed adolescent inpatient unit
• Dedicated CAMHS psychiatric liaison services within 3 acute hospitals
• Connections service
• Discovery College
• Peer specialists working within our community and inpatient teams
Dorset Healthcare is also responsible for a range of other specialist Children's Services across Dorset, including Forensic CAMHS, Eating Disorder Services, Intellectual Disability Services, and Early Intervention in Psychosis.
We are working closely with our local commissioners to develop new and innovative services including a CAMHS retreat to support the emotional health and wellbeing of young people across Dorset.
As part of the ongoing growth and transformation of Dorset CAMHS, the CAMHS Gateway was launched in September 2020 – this is a dedicated Assessment and Brief Intervention Service within the Bournemouth and Poole Area and is an extension of the existing community teams. This service will roll out county wide in the coming year. The primary focus of CAMHS Gateway is on providing high quality clinical assessment of young people and families, as well as delivering brief, needs led, evidence based clinical interventions. This allows the core community teams to focus on delivering evidence-based interventions in a timely way, therefore improving access times and reducing waits. Do you want to be involved in shaping how this change takes effect?
In return we can offer you:
• Dedicated career pathways and great opportunities for continuing professional development
• You will have the opportunity to complete the Dorset CAMHS Staff Development Programme – this is a comprehensive training package designed to support clinical staff in developing the core competencies required to work effectively in CAMHS
