The Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual, with the passion and drive to make a difference as our new Head of Cancer services.
As a motivated, forward thinking individual you will lead the strategic direction and delivery of our cancer services with the support of a highly experienced and dedicated team.
You will be working in partnership with the Lead Cancer Clinician, Lead Cancer Nurse and senior leadership teams across all Divisions, supported by the Executive Team you will deliver the national Cancer Strategy and performance indicators. Working collaboratively across the Cancer Alliances and Clinical Commissioning Groups the post holder will be integral to the success of the delivery of the local strategic plans to ensure our patients continue to receive the very best care.
This unique role will support and deputise for the Divisional Director in the delivery of the operational performance agenda and will include the following key challenges:
• Delivery of strategic and operational objectives;
• A focus on the Trust’s key performance challenges and the development of plans to address them;
• Lead recovery work in areas where performance is off trajectory;
• Lead work with stakeholders designed to improve patient pathways and service delivery;
Accountable to the Divisional Director, we will expect you to implement and drive forward the internal transformation agenda including Swindon’s first radiotherapy centre. Having expert knowledge of the wider Cancer agenda, the environment we operate in and significant experience in managing complex health services at senior level in the NHS/Healthcare will support the successful delivery of this role.
In this essential role, you will have a proven record in operational leadership and working within a complex environment with skills in communication and problem solving. As the successful candidate you will be committed to continue our efforts to build a truly open and inclusive culture and take an active role in promoting equality in the workplace and in the delivery of services.

Working closely with our local partners, we continue to integrate care and clinical pathways to help our staff deliver excellent care with exciting plans to upgrade a whole range of services on the Great Western Hospital site through our Way Forward Programme, which includes an expanded and co-located urgent and emergency care service, and a centre of excellence for rehabilitation.
