Barnardo's Works is an innovative youth employability programme running in Scotland and partnering with SSE to pilot the programme in the Reading area. The programme aims to support and transform the lives of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the Reading and Berkshire area. The aim of the programme is to equip young people 16-25 with the skills, confidence and ambition to pursue their goals of finding employment. SSE are offering real employment opportunities and the young people we are supporting will be invited to apply, interview and work for SSE for a 6-month paid placement.
The Project Worker role will provide a pivotal role to the development of the Barnardo's programme in Reading area. Working with vulnerable NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people this role focuses on supporting young people through short motivational programmes such as improving employability skills, confidence and self-esteem to go onto work in SSE in a variety of roles.
You will work with young people to assertively and creatively engage with hard-to-reach young people. The project worker will lead and develop the work in this area and will be responsible for providing quality Information, Advice and Guidance.
You will be responsible for contributing to, devising and developing session plans and resources to meet learning requirements to equip young people with the personal social and development skills, motivation, confidence and employability skills to progress into and sustain employment. You will be responsible for supporting young people to attend work placement and ensure they are supported once in placement for a period of 6 months.
We are also looking for this role to support the development of a traineeship model in the local area, working with employers to design and delivery this.
The post holder will be responsible for liaising with other Barnardo's services and agencies to access additional supportive services for service users where required. There will also be required to work effectively across SSE departments, developing good working relations with key stakeholders within SSE.
This post will involve travelling around the Berkshire area with travel to and from the Reading SSE offices, so ability to work flexibility and from local community venues is essential.
Key Experience/Qualifications Required:
• Experience of working with NEET young people aged 16-29
• Experience of 1:1 work with young people
• Delivery of employability and personal and social development in group sessions.
• Excellent local knowledge of the Reading and Berkshire area and organisations within it
• Knowledge and experience of delivering Study Programme or Traineeship programmes
• Level 3/4 PTTLS/DTTLS (desirable).
• Links with employers and previous experience in this area (desirable).
