Summary

Consultant Paediatrician

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to invite experienced or new Paediatric Consultants to work based at our Scarborough Hospital site. We will work with the successful candidate in order to develop a unique and ideal job plan to suit the individual’s needs and to help develop services across the Trust. We are recruiting to a 10 PA vacancy and support flexible working arrangements.

There is a minimum 1:10 consultant of the week rota and a 1:10 weekend on call rota in operation. This opportunity is for a resident post which provides flexibility over where the successful candidate chooses to live.

The Trust is looking for candidates with general paediatric experience with a special interest, or willing to develop an interest, in diabetes who want to continue to develop our existing services and be part of a forward thinking, innovative Paediatric team. The post is flexible and we will consider other special interests.

The post will involve opportunities to work across other sites within the Trust – in particular York, and will have some teaching and supervision responsibilities in respect of specialty trainees.

The department has close links with Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school.

Scarborough Hospital has a 14 bedded Paediatric in-patient ward and Children’s Assessment Unit co-located near A&E, as well a Level 1 Neonate unit comprising of 6 cots and 2 transition cots. To support your on-going professional development you will receive an excellent Study leave package. The Trust also has an active Research Department to support research interests. The Trust offers a relocation package to support successful candidates.

The Trust offers an excellent Staff Benefits package to all employees, which includes salary sacrifice schemes and local discounts/offers including child care vouchers, travel and transport discounts and schemes, holiday discounts and other offers. More information can be found on the Trust’s website in the ‘Working for Us’ section.

The surrounding area of North Yorkshire is one of the most attractive in England and offers opportunities for city, costal or rural living. Scarborough is situated on the edge of the Yorkshire moors national park with miles of beautiful coastline on the doorstep. The historical cultural city of York is situated just 40 miles inland. There are excellent options for schooling at all levels throughout the region. If the successful candidate opts for resident on call, rather than on call from home, then they would have considerable flexibility in where they choose to live.

In order to learn more about the trust and see what the paediatric department can offer you, we invite you to arrange a visit. We will also use this time to learn about your interests and what you can offer the department. For the right candidate job plans, special interests and hours of work can be developed flexibly. Candidates who wish to work less than full time will also be considered.

Please see the attached job pack for further information about the role and the service. When completing your application form please include in the additional information section of the application form the name of your current responsible officer, their contact details and your date of revalidation.

If shortlisted, we will invite you to an interview.
