Diabetic Eye Screening Programme

B4 Screener/First Level Disease Grader (Primary Level)

Permanent Contract

0.80wte (30 hours per week)



North Tees NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme currently screens an eligible population of over 25,200 diabetics

A vacancy has arisen for a Retinal Screener/Grader. The successful applicant will be key member of the diabetic eye screening programme and be responsible for taking digital retinal images of people with diabetes and subsequently grading the digital images to determine whether disease or no disease is present and outcome.

All training will be provided by the service to enable the successful candidate to attain the required mandatory Diploma for Health Screeners.

You will be required to operate Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) retinal 3D scanner, full training will be provided and an expectation to participate in annual training and accreditation.

Once qualified, this post will be an excellent opportunity for the qualified screener to expand their role, with the potential to develop skills in specialist areas of this field, and to contribute to audits research and training

Excellent patient care and communication skills are essential for this post. You will be self-disciplined, able to focus for long periods of time in dark room conditions to aid the best view of digital images. You will be required to work independently providing the highest possible outcome for our patients following pathway guidelines.

This post holder will also be require to partake in monthly training test sets for quality assurance purposes and ongoing grading accreditation, ensuring that grading standards are continually met.
