Summary


This is an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical skills working within the stroke rehabilitation therapy team. It gives you the opportunity to complete a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner) Apprenticeship Route. Successful completion of the course will lead to you working as a band 4 Assistant Practitioner.


We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate,
preferably someone who has previously worked within the rehabilitation
environment, studied to NVQ level 3, the bespoke community health care
support worker programme or at an equivalent academic level and is competent in IT skills.

This Assistant Practitioner post will have a particular focus on working alongside speech & language therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists providing rehabilitation to people following stroke.

Rehabilitation may be on the Acute Stroke Unit (Royal Blackburn Hospital), the Rehabilitation Stroke Unit (Pendle Community Hospital), in people’s own homes, care homes and other community and hospital care settings. A rotation scheme is in operation and the service operates over six days per week currently (with a potential development to seven day services). The stroke therapy service has a strong inter-disciplinary team ethos with a focus on delivering patient-centred care and maximizing independence.


The service is well equipped and has clerical support and a well established team of assistant practitioners. There are regular team meetings, a commitment to continuing professional development and an annual appraisal system. Ability to work flexibly and to travel to meet the demands of the job is essential (car driver – please clearly state this on application).


The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner)
Apprenticeship Route course is a 2 year academic programme of work based learning in partnership with UCLan as the training provider.

Applicants will develop their knowledge & skills through attending University one day a week as well as undertaking work based learning. There will be an expectation to undertake additional study (up to 20 hours per week in the applicants own time).

The successful applicant will commence employment at Band 3 working within the stroke therapy rehabilitation service and undertake the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner) Apprenticeship Route, UCLan (anticipated degree start date September 2021).
