What's involved with this role:
Interim Technical Architect - PSR 1JP00026758 Pay Rate: Up to £600 per day pay range subject to IR35 status The NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) is a live national health care service which provides an easy way for patients to choose their first hospital or clinic appointment with a specialist. Bookings can be made online, using the telephone, or directly in the GP surgery at the time of referral. The e-RS is being continually transformed to deliver new and enhanced capabilities as well as to further integrate with other national and local health care systems.
This role will support the development of the Emergency Department Digital Integration (EDDI) service which will provide NHS 111 online and telephony with the capability to make appointment bookings into Emergency Departments from 1st December 2020. The responsibilities include ownership of the following key areas: Solution architecture and governance – managing architecture design and change paying particular attention to the non-functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability, availability, cost and operations, as well as ensuring that architecture documentation is accurate and up to date
Interoperability - delivery of RESTful (FHIR, JSON) APIs to support modern and seamless integrations with external IT systems such as those found in primary and secondary care
Internet First – opening-up of the e-RS interfaces (the Professional Web Application and APIs) for access over the public Internet, the prerequisites for which include security checks such as OWASP ASVS level 3 compliance and improvements to session management
Internet-based authentication – NHS Identity is a new OpenID Connect (OIDC) based national service which will allow FIDO2 compliant devices to authenticate to e-RS via a centralised identity platform
Non-functional testing – oversight of the overall approach to non-functional testing, primarily the volume and performance testing ensuring that the load profile remains representative of the live service traffic
Technology stack – management of key e-RS technologies including the OS, and the data and application tiers ensuring they stay up to date and fit for purpose
Supplier management – liaising with the e-RS software development partner to ensure the delivery of monthly releases meets the required technical quality standards The role requires significant engagement with multiple stakeholder groups such as the executive team, the business team, the development partner, external suppliers, as well as a multitude of internal NHS Digital teams such as Technical Architecture, Solution Assurance, Service Management, and Platforms & Infrastructure. Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Proven track record of cloud-based solution architectures, particularly using AWS
• Knowledge of and experience of using architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or AWS Well Architected Framework
• Hands on experience of open source server technologies including PostgreSQL, Apache httpd, and Apache Tomcat
• Proficiency in Linux
• RESTful API design, assurance and management
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Management of suppliers and assurance of their solutions
• Evidence of identifying and documenting functional and non-functional requirements for a particular project Advantageous
• AWS Solution Architect (Associate or Professional) certification
• OpenID Connect, OAuth2, FIDO2
• Security clearance via the national vetting service
• Knowledge of core NHS and healthcare technologies
