Job Summary

Families First is looking to recruit an experienced and dedicated Community Engagement Support Worker who will be responsible for delivering the Families First programme in Blaenau Gwent to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families in the community.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering community initiatives to hard to reach families across Blaenau Gwent with a view to improving community engagement and targeting those families who may ordinarily be disadvantaged by poverty and isolation.

The post holder will be motivated and enthusiastic about improving communities and through excellent organisation skills; develop projects and events which support children and young people to reach their full potential whilst also promoting time together for families.

The Social Services Directorate – Children’s Services are looking to recruit a multi skilled professional to work with children and families in need of support by developing sustainable community initiatives to tackle poverty and isolation.

You will be able to communicate effectively with children, young people and their families, be flexible in your working hours to meet the needs of the community, and undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and role.

The role requires a relevant Level 3 or above professional qualification in Social Care, and Level 1 & 2 in Safeguarding along with proven experience of working with children and families in a community setting.

Experience of working with other agencies, undertaking assessments and delivering interventions, with a good understanding of child development and sound working knowledge of legislation, guidance and standards related to children’s support services is essential.

The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The post holder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
