Leading the way in Research

This is an exciting opportunity to join the pharmacy clinical trials team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust at a time of innovation and service development. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacist with sound clinical knowledge and the potential to perform at a high level to support the current clinical trials pharmacist and the wider team.

You will have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, innovative and committed to providing the highest quality of research and care for patients recruited to clinical trials. You will need an ability to develop effective working relationships, to challenge and to prioritise your own work and be a valuable member of the team. You will be required to be flexible, reliable and able to work on your own initiative to provide an efficient service to a growing research environment.

We are at the forefront of clinical research at national and international level. Participation in clinical research demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to improving the quality of care we offer and to making our contribution to wider health improvement. The Trust has recently been selected to host a NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre, one of five new sites selected across England. The centres will provide dedicated space, purpose-designed facilities and medical expertise to deliver clinical research within NHS hospital sites, with the aim of increasing the number of studies being run across England. The initiative will increase the NHS’s capacity to deliver vital research for patients, while decreasing the time it takes to set-up late-phase commercial trials within the NHS - improving the UK’s competitiveness in the global market and providing opportunities for patients to benefit from early access to innovation.

The Trust is situated in Exeter, surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside and Dartmoor. We employ around 8,000 staff serving a core population of more than 460,000 people in Exeter, East Devon and Mid-Devon. We admit more than 120,000 patients and hold 450,000 outpatient clinics every year, spending nearly £500 million a year on delivering high quality acute and community-based healthcare.

Our pharmacy clinical trials team covers activity across all specialities including oncology and haematology and also the NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility. The team comprises of the clinical trials manager, 2 clinical trials technicians, a senior assistant technical officer, rotational pharmacist and lead clinical trials pharmacist. We are committed to providing and supporting education and personal development opportunities for this post.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Final approval of pharmacy trial specific procedures in line with standard operating procedures and Good Clinical Practice ensuring high quality care and safety for our patients.
  • Assessment of the financial impact of individual trials.
  • Liaison and collaboration with a wide range of staff, to ensure the smooth set-up, delivery and close-down of all research projects in the Trust to maintain our excellent reputation within the research community.

For informal enquiries, or to arrange a visit, please contact Shirley Todd, Clinical Trials Pharmacist on 01392 402444.

Please note that you will be notified via email regarding the result of your application. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 30th June 2020

Our vision is to provide safe, high quality seamless services delivered with courtesy and respect. To achieve our vision we expect all our staff to uphold our Trust values. Our Trust values are:
Honesty, Openness & Integrity
Inclusion & Collaboration
Respect & Dignity

***Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.***
