Here at Livewell Southwest, we like to do things differently. As one of the UK’s only providers of physical, mental and social healthcare services for people of all ages and one of the UKs largest health and social care Community Interest Companies, we are able to offer medical jobs which are unique and tailored to you.

We are looking for two outstanding psychiatrists to join our Psychiatric Liaison Team. The team are a skilled mix of multidisciplinary staff following the amalgamation of the older adult and working age team in 2016.

As experts in your area you will be enthusiastic and committed to providing the very best care for patients who present themselves at the most critical stage of their illness. You will provide sound medical advice to the team and also to colleagues in secondary and primary care. You will be actively involved in MDT’s, decisions surrounding prescribing and in service provision. You are forward thinking and able to provide sound clinical leadership with ease, an attribute which will also support you to supervise those foundation, GP and psychiatry trainees assigned to the department (you will receive protected time to do this).

Employing only 25 senior psychiatrists, LSW has a unique ability to provide doctors with job plans that are exclusively tailored to suit. Opportunities to be involved in research, appraisals, audit and teaching are just a few. You will have an active awareness in LSW management, sharing advice and contributing to senior meetings as appropriate. With a robust Clinical Leadership Management structure, doctors are supported and encouraged to apply for roles to enhance their growth, be it as an Education or Clinical Supervisor or a member of the Medical Management Team. LSW believe in their doctors and their ability to contribute to the development of the organisation as a whole. We also fully support our doctors to stay connected to what interests them, even outside of their field of specialty, to ensure a career that stays exciting and engaged.

This role will suit a doctor who thrives on the fast paced nature of Liaison Psychiatry especially with the service being located within the acute provider. University Hospitals Plymouth has a catchment population of 450,000 people. The wider catchment area of the South West Peninsula has a population of almost 2,000,000 people who are all able to access the service.

Doctors are provided with a generous study leave allowance of 33 days over three years. We also encourage participation in the Out of Hours on Call Rota (currently 1 in 14) with appropriate compensatory rest provision. Inclusion in the teaching of trainee doctors is expected and you will receive access to our weekly teaching programme and regular peer group and reflective practice.

LSW is rated good and outstanding in areas by the CQC and our staff are committed to improve on ratings year on year. We know our staff are our biggest asset and so we strive to make careers that are personal, unique and flexible. We are extremely proud partners of both Plymouth University and Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD) and have received exceptional feedback in our GMC survey from the trainees that have been on rotation with us.

So, what are you waiting for? We have a strong reputation as being an employer of choice and often have trainees and previous recruits returning to us, why not come and join us and see what we are made of!

To find out more about this exciting opportunity, please contact; Dr Jos Dawe, Clinical Lead for Adult Mental Health at or Teresa Barrett, HR Medical Staffing Manager at

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice is required, as is entry on the Specialist register.

NHS pension is available for those who are eligible. Pension through other providers is available should the former not apply to you.

Those pursuing CESR are also encouraged to apply, to be considered for a “locum to substantive” transitional position. Our department has a track record of supporting doctors through the CESR process and would welcome the opportunity to support you through it.

Interview date: 6th July 2020.

Closing date: 14th June 2020.
