Summary

CAMHS Specialist Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, Band 7

Bexley Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Permanent post

0.7 wte post

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an able and enthusiastic child & adolescent psychotherapist to join Bexley CAMHS. The post is based within the Looked After and Adopted Children’s Team focusing on under 5s and perinatal mental health.

The Specialist Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, Under 5’s and Perinatal post will sit as part of the Under Fives Team within Bexley CAMHS. The service has a long tradition of being a crucial element of the Under Fives Service in Bexley, leading on our monthly multiagency consultations - Bexley Under Fives Service (BUFS) and our Perinatal Multi-Agency meetings, with our colleagues from paediatrics, educational psychology, early years education advisory service, health visitors, adult mental health, Midwifery service and social care. BUFS and the Perinatal Multi-Agency forum strives to develop a coherent, multifaceted understanding of the infant/child’s development to effectively plan and pace treatments for our infants and children. Coupled with this crucial work, the Specialist Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists offers parent-child psychotherapy for carers and their infant/child where the early relationship has been particularly challenged due to the adult’s own mental health, domestic violence, the child’s chronic physical health or neurodevelopmental difficulties leading to further trauma and insecure attachments in the infant/child and exacerbating the parent’s mental health. Therefore to support the further development of increasing the focus on perinatal mental health we are recruiting this post and to that of a clinical psychologist.

The post holder should have experience of, or an interest in under 5s and perinatal mental health work.

The post is open to qualified child psychotherapists, (including those newly qualified) with experience of work in child mental health in a multidisciplinary context (this includes work in a training post) and a full member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists. You should also have experience of relevant patient groups (i.e. LAC and Adopted children, perinatal mental health) presenting high levels of complexity and difficulty.

Bexley CAMHS is a friendly, busy and thriving service, regarded as an accessible and effective service. Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health, learning disabilities and community services to the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich. The Trust has consistently achieved high ratings in quality assessments, patient and staff surveys with a culture of supporting staff whilst providing excellent services within a robust clinical governance framework. The CAMHS child and adolescent psychotherapy discipline lead is Martin Daltrop and is well regarded within the Trust and there are excellent CPD opportunities.
