A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist to join our large and friendly team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) based in Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. We are a large Acute Teaching Hospital of approximately 1200 beds and 8000 staff located at a PFI hospital, which opened in 2006, situated just off junction 2 of the M6 and M69.

Our large pharmacy department has an innovative approach to pharmaceutical care with floor based medicines optimisation and management teams and pharmacist led speciality clinics, reflecting the priorities set in the national Hospital Pharmacy Transformation Programme and the need for our clinical pharmacists to be patient facing.

In addition, we are the principle teaching hospital for Warwick University and the Pharmacy Department has strong links with the Medical School, the Department of Medicines Management at Keele University and the School of Pharmacy at Aston University.

The successful post holder will be the delivery lead for the Pharmacy department’s education and training requirements according to the direction of the Lead Pharmacists for Education and Training. This will mean:
• Identifying, developing, designing and maintaining pharmacy staff training programs and resources.
• Delivery of face to face pharmacy staff training at induction and through their various clinical rotations
• Supporting the delivery of Pre-Registration pharmacists training (currently there are 5 students).
• Completing training assessments as appropriate, which may include marking student course work or providing feedback on performance.
• Promoting a culture of innovation in education and training within the pharmacy department.
• Mentoring and supporting others within pharmacy to deliver high quality training.
• Deputising for the Lead Pharmacists for Education and Training.
• Delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops and other training material as appropriate

You will be part of close knit education and training team, which includes the Pharmacy Technicians for Education and Training, the Teacher Practitioners for Warwick and Aston University and the Medicines Information and Training Pharmacist. You will be expected to support each other’s responsibilities and where appropriate, cross-cover and work through problems as a team.

You will have to work closely with the Clinical Service Leads, Senior Management Team and your colleagues in education and training to ensure training is tailor made to the requirements of the pharmacy service and that best practice is always delivered to our patients. This will cover everything from induction into the large and friendly pharmacy team, to supporting staff through revalidation and their professional development where possible.

There will be a clinical commitment to this post, which will include responsibility for a ward, but this will be balanced to the role and the needs of the clinical pharmacy service.

You will be a registered pharmacist with a suitable amount of hospital clinical pharmacy experience, working towards or already holding a Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (or equivalent). You will have a passion for developing and motivating others. You must be confident in public speaking, be able to think creatively and act with initiative and resolve.
