Applications are invited for the above posts at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for enthusiastic team members with a broad experience in anaesthesia and excellent communication skills. We offer full integration into a friendly department and can tailor the job plans to the individual applicants’ experience and needs.
The Horton General Hospital is an acute general hospital serving the growing population of North Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas. We are proud to be one of the best rated hospitals in the country for fractured neck of femur care.
The principal purpose of the posts will be:
• Increase cover for the existing resident rota at the Horton General Hospital, staffed by specialty doctors and trainees within a full shift system.
• Provide Elective and Emergency anaesthetic services for a variety of surgical specialities.
The department based here consists of 11 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 8 specialty doctors (including these posts), 4 trainees at CT1 level and 1 Foundation Year 1 trainee. All trainees are accompanied by a designated senior anaesthetist (Cons or SAS level) when allocated to an elective or emergency theatre session. There will be a senior anaesthetist resident on-call to support the daytime on call and will be available on-call from home overnight. The relationship between anaesthetists of all grades is excellent and the weekly workload is shared flexibly and in a collegial atmosphere. Our trainees are well supported through core training and given excellent preparation for the Primary FRCA.
We are also a part of the overall Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics based in Oxford, one of the largest anaesthetic departments in the country. We are currently working towards ACSA accreditation. In addition to anaesthetic and critical care services at the Horton, we provide services at three major hospital sites in Oxford: The John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
These posts offer excellent opportunities to enjoy the benefits of working in both a smaller district general hospital and larger specialist tertiary facilities, with a wide variety of professional development opportunities, underpinned by being part of a small, cohesive team.
