An exciting opportunity has arisen within Molecular Pathology at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Clinical Scientist with previous laboratory experience to join our team and contribute to the provision of the Genomics service in Molecular Pathology.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Our department is part of the Wessex Local Genomics Laboratory, within the Wessex, Oxford and West Midlands Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) Consortium, providing a comprehensive range of molecular investigations and complex interpretation for haematological disease, MRD, disease associations (including pharmacogenomics) and solid tumours.
The laboratory is part of a European network for molecular diagnostics quality assurance, including innovations in lymphoid clonality analysis. Within UHS, the laboratory works closely with other departments including Cellular Pathology and Haematology services to enable the future provision of molecular diagnostics.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The post holder will be able to analyse, interpret and report complex molecular investigations. The post holder will work closely with the senior Molecular Pathology team, other departments within the Pathology directorate and the various teams across the Wessex region and as part of the GLH. The post holder will play a role in delivering the strategic plan for UHS molecular diagnostics as part of the national reconfiguration of the NHS Genomic Medicine Service. The successful candidate will take part in all aspects of the genomics service including the interpretation, verification and validation of NGS data in cancer. They will also support developments in personalised medicine including the transfer of assays to NGS platforms, complex interpretation, active engagement in MDTs and opportunities for research developments.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist with experience and knowledge in molecular diagnostics.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated their ability to constructively work through periods of change and have experience of innovation through new technologies and processes such as NGS and ddPCR. Good communication, interpersonal skills and a committed team member are essential
The laboratory supports the training of a variety of STP programmes, the HSST in Molecular Pathology of Acquired Disease and the training of healthcare professionals in cancer genetics, haematology, immunology, biochemistry and histopathology.
