Who are we?

We have full-time and part-time vacancies for Support Workers across Dewsbury and the surrounding areas. The vacancies currently available require Support Workers who can commit to a rolling rota which includes alternate weekends.

The majority of our customers in the West Yorkshire area are adults with learning and/or physical disabilities, mental health and Autism, with some customers also having challenging behaviour. The one thing they all have in common is that they are looking for support to live independently, develop their social skills and above all, enjoying some company.

What does the role involve?
As a Support Worker you will listen to our customers, what they want to do and what they want to achieve. Generally the support we provide consists of giving our customers access to the community by being involved with activities such as bowling, cinema and trips to the shops.

We are not a residential care provider and your approach will be specifically tailored to the person you are supporting, working towards their goals and aspirations. Some support with medication and personal care may be involved with certain customers. You will build a great relationship with the people you support, and will see the difference you make to their lives on a daily basis.

Our customers mainly require support throughout the day including evenings and weekends. As there is a requirement to undertake some work over a weekend, this will be on an alternate week arrangement, so some flexibility will be required.

Maybe you are good at cooking, confident managing finances, good at problem solving or always on the lookout for fun things to do in your local area. These are exactly the kind of things that can make you a fantastic Support Worker for Avalon.

Of course there are other elements involved in becoming a Support Worker. Our award winning in-house training team will ensure that you learn all the additional skills you need to deliver the role with confidence, so that no previous experience working in social care is necessary.

Being a car driver would also be highly desirable but is not essential.
