Location: This role can be base at any of our clients national offices: Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff, London (Barkingside) or Crawley. Regular local and national travel will be required.

The Role:
Our client are recruiting for a User Experience Design Lead, to work within their Digital and Technology department. Working within social care, our client have a responsibility to children and young people, and people in very vulnerable situations, as well as a variety of other audiences.
As the User Experience designer, you will set the standard for the journey of taking our clients users on, meeting their needs and expectations, considering design industry, best practices, and existing design patterns. You will be responsive to new developments within research, digital, technology and charity, and will be looking to ensure processes and activities remain innovative and relevant.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, agree and advocate design standards for products at all stages of the lifecycle, in conjunction with product and programme leaders
  • Set and evaluate ways of working for user experience, including for diverse and previously unmet audiences
  • Setting and agreeing standards and approaches for evaluation in user experience – including testing methodologies, input and output, outcome and impact metrics
  • Provide thoughtful and strategic decisions to ensure the right problems are being solved with the right solutions
  • Promote the value of user-centric design and development through the lifecycle of delivery
Key Activities:
  • Extend and improve the design system to ensure it aligns with the needs and expectations of each audience
  • Develop and maintain design team resources, including training materials, best practices and commonly used resources
  • Lead and monitor the departments design standard controls, ensuring that standards of quality and consistency are upheld
  • Experiment with new tools, processes and techniques to improve the impact of design
  • Coach and support designers and creative colleagues across the company
  • Lead at least one service design project yourself, ensuring practical skills stay sharp and the continuous reduction of the gap between theory and implementation
  • Manage cross-team initiatives that promote visibility of design and user experience across teams (e.g. design system, design patterns, participant engagement, data visualisation)
  • Plan and implement a programme of service visits and user research activity for the department and beyond, aligning with the needs of product and delivery teams
Experience and Skills:
  • Portfolio of work showcasing your design thinking – worked examples and cast studies will be preferred
  • Significant experience of user experience activities across a variety of complex programmes
  • Demonstrable experience in user experience leadership and delivery roles, ideally with both industry and agency experience, working with a variety of audiences and user groups
  • Experience of implementing and managing research libraries e.g. using Dovetail
  • Experience of leading a user-centric design practice across a multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to demonstrate experience of leading and managing a multidisciplinary agile team
  • Experience of designing for web and native apps
  • An understanding of A/B and multivariate testing
  • An understanding of the interplay between UX, UI, ID and visual design
  • Demonstrable experience of structuring business cases, balancing user needs with business requirements
  • Proficient with a variety of design tools to create high fidelity prototypes / visual designs (e.g. Sketch, Zeplin)
  • Understanding of the full life cycle of software development
  • Excellent visual, verbal and written communication skills, and a captivating presentation and communication style
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving
