Head of Campaigns that has excellent leadership, planning, project coordination skills with experience delivering complex communication campaigns for a range of audiences in a multi-channel environment is required for the National Lottery Promotions Unit based in London.

SALARY: £42,000 - £48,000 per annum plus Generous Benefits (see below)


JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 Hours per Week (ability to travel and carry our occasional work outside normal hours is expected).


We have a fantastic job opportunity for a senior communications professional to join us as Head of Campaigns.

The National Lottery Promotions Unit is a small but talented team responsible for raising public awareness of the thousands of extraordinary good causes funded by The National Lottery.

This is an important position within the organisation. As the Head of Campaigns, you will report to the NLPU Director and will lead on delivery and devising UK-wide campaigns that have line management responsibility.

Working as the Head of Campaigns your role will involve significant stakeholder management, working alongside internal partners such as National Lottery distributors, Camelot and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and requires attendance at bi-monthly management board meetings, comprised of members of the above bodies.

Your responsibilities as the Head of Campaigns will also involve the delivery of high impact PR activities that resonate with National Lottery players and the wider public, which are designed to increase a positive image towards The National Lottery brand.


Your duties and responsibilities:

• Research target audiences, trends in their behaviour and identify impactful, engaging and innovative ways of reaching them

• Liaise with National Lottery funded projects across the UK to involve them in campaigns and to identify their life changing stories for use across The National Lottery’s channels

• When required you will work across other NLPU projects and campaigns and be a key member of the NLPU’s Senior Management Team, working with the Unit's Director and Management Board to set high standards and maintain a positive, can-do culture in a high performing unit

• Line manage one campaigns officer and one campaigns manager, inspiring and supporting them to realise their potential and to deliver against their objectives, their campaign work and wider NLPU targets

• You must be able to innovate across digital and traditional media so that the NLPU is at the cutting edge of industry best practice, fully exploiting the wide range of ways of communicating with National Lottery players

• Lead on the creation of digital content for campaign by commissioning photography, infographics, film and other content

• Draft tender documents, running procurement exercises to identify external suppliers to support your campaign, overseeing high quality work from them and ensuring excellent value for money.

• Be responsible for all campaign spend, forecasting and accounting for it in line with The National Lottery Community Fund’s financial standards


• An impressive record of achievement in at least one senior communications role

• Significant experience of leading, planning, co-ordinating and delivering complex communications campaigns for a range of audiences in a multi-channel environment

• Strong practical experience of content development, media relations, digital media, event management, filming, market research and insight, branding, evaluation and website development

• Demonstratable experience in dealing with the media at a local and national level with excellent contacts within the industry

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and developed negotiation, organisational and influencing skills

• Significant experience of managing external suppliers and budgets

• Excellent stakeholder management skills

• Writes well for a range of materials from web copy to content for social channels, media articles and press materials

• Experience of running large scale procurement exercises to public sector standards

• A good understanding of modern communications evaluation techniques and experience of commissioning research to inform a communications campaign

• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office (MS Word, Outlook and Excel)

• Good people management skills
