Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Specialising in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology
Applications are invited for the post of Head & Neck Consultant in OMFS Surgery. This is a full time position with 10 programmed activities spread throughout the week.
University College London Hospitals are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a sub-specialty interest in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology. The consultant will have a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, excellence in education and training, clinical research and audit.
The Head and Neck Cancer Centre was established at UCLH in 2005. Transfer of specialist staff from RNTNE and the Royal Free and Barts Health more recently has combined with those already at UCLH. The Head and Neck Centre at UCLH has consolidated the surgical practice of six OMFS and seven ENT cancer surgeons working closely as a team. The surgeons of the Head and Neck Centre are also working very closely with the ENT and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons at the Eastman Dental Hospital, RNTNE, Royal Free, Barts Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children sharing dedicated junior staff and providing the basis for one of the most comprehensive Head and Neck Teams in the UK.
The candidate will have a primary interest in OMFS / Head and Neck surgery and will be expected to play a full role in the continuation of developing a world class Head and Neck Centre. The role primarily supports the existing Head & Neck services, including the surgical oncology services. The post is incorporated in the overall changes as designed by the amalgamation of services between UCLH and Barts Health, which sits within the London Cancer framework.
Given the developing nature of the Head and Neck cancer network, the job plan for this post will be subject to regular review to ensure that it continues to support the delivery of high-quality services for all outpatient, diagnostic, inpatient and acute services. The post-holder may be required to work fixed clinical sessions in other hospitals within the network in the future.
All candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration and must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of receiving CCST/ CCT in OMFS Surgery at the time of interview. Candidates with post-CCT experience of Head and Neck surgical oncology are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants are expected to have an interest in complex reconstructive surgery and will be part of the OMFS Head and Neck on call rota.
