The Defence Dental Services (DDS) is seeking a competent, enthusiastic and motivated Dental Practitioner for this part time (15 hrs working Mondays and Tuesdays) position within the Ministry of Defence.
You will provide primary dental care to the military population of HMS Drake, Devonport in order to achieve dental fitness targets in a modern, well equipped, preventive practice. Additional duties include Line manager responsibilities of uniformed and MOD civilian DCP’s and participation in a regional ‘on call rota’.
Occasional travel to local military establishments within 1 hours travel time in the region may be required. You will be responsible to the Senior Dental Officer and will comply with all Defence Dental Services policies.
You will be assisting the SDO to achieve Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) Key Performance Indicator (KPI) fitness targets for all entitled personnel as detailed in the JSP 950 Leaflet 2-23-1.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Directing and supervising the work of the Dental Nurses and Dental Nurse Trainees allocated to their surgery.
- The CDP is responsible for his/her own continuing personal professional development and training and maintaining a portfolio byrecording his/her continuing professional education and other training activities.
- Maintaining CPD in accordance with the General Dental Council regulations on reaccreditation.
- Fulfilling Civilian Line Manager duties as required by SDO including completion of all required reports and management of staff using HRMS.
- Ensuring that treatment is fully recorded in accordance with current DPHC (Dental) and GDC regulations.
There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
Occasionally the individual may be tasked to work at other neighbouring dental centres if tasked by the PDO.
Desirable: A working knowledge of dental IT systems. A valid driving licence as you may be required to travel within the region.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GDC; and either; have undertaken Foundation Dentist Training (or have qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the NHS); or have evidence of adequate clinical experience (either in the UK or abroad) to be able to practice independently.
