(12 months potentially extendable on satisfactory completion)

1 post

Salary - £36,511- £50,068 plus 1A banding supplement (50%) and london weighting (£2,162)

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Trauma Fellow (Registrar level) in Emergency Medicine to commence in August 2019. The successful candidate will be on the ST4-6 rota and therefore must be able to work at that level. The role is 75% clinical shop floor work and 25% trauma fellow on a full shift 16 person rota. The post attracts a generous study budget to enable completion of necessary courses and study days.

The hospital is a designated Trauma Unit and an active member of the South West London and Surrey Trauma Network. The successful candidate will support the current trauma lead and attend regular Network meetings. The role also includes a position on the Hospital Trauma Care Delivery Group to help develop clinical pathways and improve the quality of trauma care within the Trust. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to experience trauma care at a local Major Trauma Centre to improve their clinical skills and share their learning and experience within the Department.

To ensure continued professional development the successful candidate will be supervised by the current hospital trauma lead; an experienced ED consultant, who will oversee the doctors own educational needs. The department offers excellent training in Emergency Medicine, as demonstrated through Deanery reports based on feedback from trainees. We are also able to offer formal, supervised ultra sound training as one of our Consultants is the current London Deanery Lead for Ultrasound.

Croydon University Hospital is a large District General Hospital in South London with University status. The Trust is committed to providing the highest standards of care and treatment to the people in the Croydon area and is also fully committed to investing in new facilities, personnel and equipment.

ENGLAND’s NEWEST EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IS OPEN having completed a £21million re-build. Featuring state of the art resuscitation room with 6 adult and 2 paediatric bays. We now have 28 monitored majors cubicles of which five have high dependency monitoring. We now have the benefit of a separate purpose built paediatric ED with segregated adolescent area that includes a CAMH’s room and a multisensory treatment room. A link to the 3D fly though of the new department is at the bottom of the advert. We are very proud of our brand new facility and believe the working and caring environment provided by the new ED makes this unique opportunity compared to other hospitals across the country.

The Department is currently staffed by 7 Consultants, 5 ST4-6’s, 3 CT3’s, 6 CT1-2’s, 7 Clinical Fellows (7 senior, 5 junior), 10 F2’s and 3 F1’s. In addition to this, the Department has an excellent nursing workforce, complimented by a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners. There is a separate Paediatric ED within the main Department and a fully integrated Urgent care Centre run by the Trust in conjunction with the local GP collaborative.

Prospective candidates must have completed the FRCEM intermediate, MRCEM or be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies.

Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact us prior to application and to arrange a visit to the department.
