Artisan Raw Ltd. is an ambitious new company making organic, dairy-free nut-based “cheeses” as well as a range of other healthy raw products.

We are looking for a talented Product Engineer to join our team to help us grow the business and transition towards large-scale commercial production. Our ideal candidate will be someone who is responsible, independent, proactive, loves spending time in the kitchen and has extensive knowledge of the technical aspects of food production and production machinery.

You should be prepared for a leadership role and have the ability to “roll up your sleeves” and jump in when needed, designing and running the production lines as well as bringing new ideas to the table. If you fit these requirements, you could be a great fit for us at Artisan Raw.

Job responsibilities:
• Research existing and alternative production methods, including those in the realm of workflow, plant layout, types of machinery and cost;
• Design, control and construct process plants to manufacture products;
• Develop new products and recipes;
• Recommend and select optimum equipment and production line layout as well as prepare production line specifications;
• Investigate and eliminate potential hazards and bottlenecks in production;
• Advise management on and ensure effective implementation of new production methods, techniques and new equipment;
• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and coordinate purchasing, storing and controlling of ingredients and materials on a daily basis to ensure a steady flow of supplies and effective inventory management;
• Undertake research and develop processes to achieve physical and chemical change for food products;
• Implement food quality control;
• Calculate costings of new products and ingredients;
• Devise and implement production control methods to monitor operational efficiency;
• Clean and wash up in the production kitchen unit;
• Pack products in shelf-ready packaging.

• Have professional and academic experience in food science and product/process development and engineering;
• Have extensive knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of food production, including pH levels, nutritional value evaluation, fermentation;
• Have extensive knowledge and understanding of the machinery and equipment used for food production;
• Have a good understanding of product shelf life, microbiology, costing and quality control;
• Possess essential cooking skills: accurate measuring of ingredients, portion control, heat control;
• Have knowledge of software, including stock control/inventory management software, product development and optimisation software, formulation software, food safety software; e.g. Recipe Professor Point74, Qadex, SAP.
• Prioritise and always observe strict food safety and hygiene standards, production guidelines and recipes and the Soil Association organic food standards, as well as have a good understanding of HACCP and GMP practices;
• Be independent, reliable, initiative and stress-resistant, as well as have a meticulous attention to detail;
• Being vegan and having a passion for healthy food is a big plus.
