SCHOOL HEALTH PRACTITIONER
AfC Band 5
Up to full-time (37.5 hours) School Term Time Only
This is an exciting opportunity for a practitioner with a health or education qualification and/or relevant practical experience of working with young people, to join the School Health Team. The team delivers on the public health agenda to schools in the Royal Borough of Kingston. They will at times need to be flexible to cover service requirements.
The post holder must have a working understanding of diversity, vulnerability and exclusion and its impact on young people alongside a working knowledge of safeguarding.
Applications will be considered based on applicants’ experience of working with safeguarded children and their families alongside quality knowledge of the key health promotion areas this role sets out to address. These include: RSE (relationships and sex education), drug and substance misuse, obesity and lifestyle, emotional health and wellbeing and resilience.
The successful applicant will be responsible in their allocated schools for supporting safeguarding delivery and delivering targeted interventions with identified groups and individuals addressing key health promotion areas. They will also work to raise awareness of health issues by organising health events in schools and will play a key role in the delivery of elements of the allocated schools’ PSHE curriculum. This will include supporting and raising awareness amongst teaching staff.
The post holder will need to be innovative and motivated with a proven track record of working autonomously and effectively with young people and school or organisational staff and wider multi- disciplinary teams. They will also need good quality knowledge of PSHE curriculums to enable them to review, and write content in the allocated schools.
