About the role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who is interested in breaking new ground with approaches to data management systems and data collaboration, with an emphasis on federation technologies that engage and support non-programmers.
As a Research Assistant (Bioinformatician) in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology you will undertake and support bioinformatics research under the direction of the Principal Investigator, relating to biomedical data management, visualisation, and discovery solutions. You will work to support the research team through the production of code in various coding languages, and detailed code documentation - planning, prioritising and carrying out semi-independent design of novel software tools, standards and graphical user interfaces, for data collection, curation, databasing, omics scale data mining and querying.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have a technical or scientific education to Masters level in computer science or bioinformatics in addition to prior related experience in developing advanced bioinformatics software. You will be also be skilled in coding, being comfortable using at least 3 coding languages commonly used in Bioinformatics.

You'll be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, being able to work comfortably both in a team and independently. You will be able to work with minimal supervision, prioritising your own workload to deal with urgent tasks, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
