Three posts
Royal London Hospital
St Bartholomew’s Hospital
Whipps Cross University Hospital

Barts Health is one of the largest acute trusts in the country. We work as a Group of
hospitals, with each hospital having its own Executive Board, accountable to the Trust Group Executive. The Group Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director for Medicines Optimisation provides professional leadership for all pharmacy staff within the organisation.
A unique pharmacy leadership structure has been designed to align with the Group model.
The Heads of Pharmacy posts are key to this. Postholders will have direct responsibility to
the Hospital Director of Operations, and therefore a direct line to the Hospital Executive
Board, for the day to day performance of their department, including the ward pharmacy
service, medicines management & governance, staffing and budget management.
Each Head of Pharmacy will also be directly accountable to the Group Chief Pharmacist for maintaining professional and clinical standards within their hospitals and progressing the overarching Pharmacy strategy. They will also work closely with the Chief Pharmacist’s Central Pharmacy and Clinical Leadership Team to maximise the benefits of working within the Group, to provide a cohesive pharmacy and medicines optimisation service for patients, the trust and partners.
We are looking for values-driven leaders with excellent understanding of how to work in a
matrix structure in a complex environment. Successful candidates will be expected to
effectively influence executive leads, senior clinicians, hospital directors and clinical and
management boards. Requirements therefore include excellent communication and critical thinking skills, clinical credibility, strong interpersonal / relationship building skills, and proven service delivery achievements. At Barts Health, we recognise and celebrate the value of our staff. Therefore dedication to the creation and maintenance of an outstanding working environment for all staff is essential. In return, you will have access to excellent training and development opportunities.
If you aspire to be a Chief Pharmacist in an acute trust, this is an ideal opportunity to take
your existing management and leadership skills to the next level, within an encouraging
environment. Each hospital has different requirements from their Head of Pharmacy and
different opportunities to be gained, therefore please take the time to consider your needs as well as what you can offer. You may apply for more than one post, please indicate in your application which hospital/s you are interested in.
