Several exciting new opportunities have arisen for a specialist enthusiastic, committed pharmacist(s) to become part of our multi-disciplinary Core Clinical team to deliver a high quality pharmacy services to medical and surgical patients at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
The Core Clinical programme is a key part of our broader band 7 programme designed to allow individual pharmacists to gain skills necessary to develop as a highly specialist clinical pharmacist.
Designed as a two-year programme, Core Clinical provides 12 months experience in both general medicine and general surgery, strengthening more complex decision making in these patients. Extending your band 6 knowledge and skills, it builds skills in team management and leadership through working in a structured environment with the support of senior clinical pharmacists.
As well as delivering ward-based clinical services, the candidate will have the opportunity to undertake Trust-based management courses, team management and organisation responsibilities (i.e. staff planning, rostering and business planning), taking on a leadership role (i.e. project supervision, training, mentoring and appraisal of junior staff members) and generating reports and leading investigations in line with Directorate priorities (i.e. root-cause analysis and finance reporting).
Clinical development opportunities include training and participation in post-take ward rounds, anti-coagulation clinics and may also provide the opportunity to undertake the Independent Prescribing course.
The Core Clinical programme will also help prepare you for competitive selection into stage 2 of our band 7 training. This offers the choice of acute specialist clinical rotations (eg renal, ICU, Nutrition, GI Surgery, Clinical Oncology) or long term condition clinical rotations (eg gastro, HIV, cardiology), helping to extend your specialist clinical knowledge in readiness for applying for senior pharmacist posts.
We are looking for enthusiastic pharmacists with demonstrable competencies in hospital pharmacy practice, excellent communication skills and a demonstrable commitment to pharmaceutical care.
Candidates should have undertaken the Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent) or be due to complete the programme within the next 12 months as a minimum.
