An exciting opportunity has arisen for AI Development Specialist to join our team in London.

Working as an AI(Artificial Intelligence) Development Specialist at Rolls-Royce is a unique opportunity to explore and embed the latest techniques in Machine Learning (including Deep Learning & automated AI), Natural Language programming and Data Science. Enabling an understanding of how advancements in these technologies will radically influence Rolls-Royce’s design, manufacturing and after-sales services as we forge the next generation of intelligent power.

To be an AI Development Specialist in Rolls-Royce you need to code, first and foremost as the role is hands on.

You will be expected to develop, train and deploy models, cooperating with and supporting other team members by pair coding and code reviews. You will also be required to seek out the domain experts in the business, who may be key to making your model useful. From time to time you will be required to present your team’s work and findings to senior leadership figures. The work place is fast-moving and requirements are often subject to change.

Rolls-Royce truly views data science as a hands-on multi-discipline application of machine-learning and increasingly deep-learning technologies.

We use a range of technology to get our work done. You will need to be comfortable working in a mixed Linux and Windows environment. Hadoop / Spark are common tools that we use to process big data. We develop many complex calculations within these environments, think thermodynamics, environmental pollution, vibration, etc… To gain additional computational efficiencies we also use computer enabled GPU’s via TensorFlow and MXNET.

Key Accountabilities

•Design, Code and Deploy AI enabled solutions for real world, large scale problems whilst challenging our current best thinking, testing theories and evaluating future concepts.
•Build-out our world class AI and data science tools. On a project this will require the design, build and creation of the entire pipeline from raw data to operationalized model. Developing industry leading algorithms that delivers transformational business value.
•Utilise/advise on machine learning systems deployable across various projects including data pipelines, model generation, and training and inference engines while being an active member of sprint teams.
•Be a proactive member of Agile teams, providing cutting edge expertise and understanding of the Data science and artificial intelligence development practices.
•Serve as a go-to point for guiding the selection and coding of applied math and AI techniques.


• BSc Degree in a STEM related subject (MSc/PhD is desirable) or equivalent.
• Extensive programming experience with Python and one or more of the following: C, Python, C++, Spark, pySpark, Scala and/or R.
• Significant exposure and a deep hands-on knowledge of big data processing systems such as Spark & Hadoop (Hadoop Ecosystem Framework - Apache Beom, Spark, Pig, Hive, MapReduce & Flume Desirable).
• Excellent working knowledge of data mining tools such as R and Python, MXNet, Tensorflow, machine & deep learning, and data analytics.
• Proficient in back-end integration, web services and Cloud interfacing (e.g. JSON, XML, RESTful interfacing).
• Experience with Deep Learning Frameworks for example TensorFlow, MXNet, Keras, Torch, Caffe, H20.
