It’s an exciting time to join us: KMPT has been rated Outstanding for Caring and Good overall in our most recent CQC inspection in January 2019!
Would you like to be part of a forward thinking progressive service that is embracing the therapeutic day? Are you someone who has a passion for working with older adults and who wants to use your core skills as an Occupational Therapist? Orchards Ward is a 16 bedded, mixed sex, older adult functional/dementia ward.
We are taking a new and innovative approach to increasing the access to therapy services for our older adult in-patient services. In response to our service users’ needs and the demand for access to therapy across the 7 day period we have increased our Occupational Therapy posts to be able to support this new way of working.
As Occupational Therapists we are positioned to shape the culture of inpatient settings to promote a therapeutic day that co-exists to enhance therapeutic interventions and recovery focused ethos on the units. This post will sit within the MDT team and will have support and access to a wider OT team and professional network within the older adult services.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist, who has an interest in providing care to older adults in the inpatient setting and who is looking to support this innovative approach to the therapeutic engagement of service users. You will be responsible for providing OT assessments and interventions, both individual and in groups, and will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic and creative environment within a multidisciplinary team which will provide interventions across the extended day, every day. You will work closely with the band 6 OT, support workers and nursing team to provide a therapeutic programme that supports the use of activity and recovery. You will also support the ward activity and undertake tasks that support the nursing roles and that maximises service user engagement.
This position would suit an Occupational Therapist who is looking to consolidate skills acquired from experience in mental health and that wishes to progress in this clinical area. You will need to be a dynamic clinician with good interpersonal skills to enable engagement of service users and staff in the therapeutic programme. You will need to be flexible and work a shift pattern that supports the 7 day programme of extended hours (this will not include nights). Occupational Therapists are recognised as essential, core members of the multi-disciplinary team and are in the forefront of developing recovery and therapeutic interventions.
KMPT can offer both personal and clinical development opportunities, in addition to regular professional and clinical supervision, a robust preceptorship programme, Personal Development Plans, and support for Continual Professional Development activities. We also offer a number of clinical and professional development opportunities through our clinical forums and internal professional networks with good links to the local universities.
This post is subject to a six month probationary period for candidates external to the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust.
Employment in this post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service.
