The Job Opportunity

A key member of the field operations team, this role is responsible for providing electrical expertise for the AASC business across the Midlands and East of England region.

The role will include the key responsibilities of providing specialist electrical guidance and advice to the operation; supporting the other maintenance operatives across the region in fault identification and rectification as well as preventative maintenance tasks; maintaining and promoting a good working relationship with other teams within the business as well as external suppliers and sub-contractors; and ensuring that the business meets its contractual requirements relating to maintenance and electrical work.

Daily Duties Involve

  • With other field operations staff, support compliance with the key performance indicators of the contract

  • Work closely and collaboratively with other maintenance and housing staff to deliver a fully compliant contractual service

  • Takes responsibility for the delivery of the electrical and maintenance elements of the contract within their designated areas of operation

Maintenance of Property

  • Undertake any additional maintenance and repair tasks as identified by the Electrical Manager

  • Provide the administration team the necessary feedback and costing information, as required

  • Provide maintenance support to the property acquisitions team, where required

  • Support the work of sub-contractors, where required

  • Ensure that all maintenance repairs and planned maintenance are carried out in line with relevant legislation/regulation and meet the contractual standards

  • Report repairs and maintenance action on the relevant IT system

  • Provide building maintenance services to a designated area, specialising in electrical work but undertaking other non-electrical work, where required

Trade Duties

  • Keep up to date with changes to legislation and regulations relating to electrical specialism

  • Undertake certification and installation/repair work to emergency lighting and fire alarm systems, as scheduled

  • Undertake PAT and FAT testing for any properties, as scheduled

  • Undertake audit samples of electrical work by sub-contractors and report findings

  • Provide technical advice and support to the maintenance teams to ensure all standards are met under the contract

  • Provide specialist electrical services in accordance with certified standards and experience, including electrical certification and servicing

Health and Safety

  • Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and the relevant Serco safety standards when on duty

  • Check all relevant property reports before undertaking works in the properties, e.g. asbestos, potentially dangerous persons, structural reports etc

  • Ensure that there is no hazard to users of the property whilst working on site

Materials Management

  • Remove all waste from properties when in attendance and ensure that it is recycled, where possible, or disposed of as per local regulations

  • Ensure all documentation relating to materials is kept in order to reconcile transactions and tasks

  • Purchase materials from approved Serco suppliers, as per internal processes and agreements

Work Scheduling and Prioritisation

  • Liaise with other members of the field operations team to support priorities, where required

  • Regularly report to the Electrical Manager the progress of repairs and pre-planned maintenance, particularly where tasks may take longer than scheduled

  • Complete all allocated work as per the assigned task and by the KPI deadline

Out of Hours Working

  • In order to provide a fully compliant service, there may be a requirement to be on-call outside of normal working hours, as per an agreed roster and in accordance with local Serco processes

What we are looking for in our candidates


  • Prepared to undertake further trade-related training, as required, to ensure qualifications remain in-date

  • Relevant electrical qualifications and accreditations (i.e. NICEIC) – proof of accreditation and ongoing certification will be required

Knowledge and Skills

  • Security clearance at Counter Terrorism Check level and Criminal Record Bureau checks are required (the role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office)

  • Ability to travel within the regions and occasionally within the UK (a valid UK driver’s licence is essential)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Understanding of buildings maintenance
