Applications are sought for the post of Consultant Radiologists at this Trust, (substantive or fixed term) to commence as soon as possible. The successful applicant will be fully competent to cover conventional radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI and on-call. Interventional experience or interest would be desirable.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging is based at the James Paget University Hospital which is a 500 bed University Hospital providing most major surgical and medical specialties to the coastal areas of East Norfolk and North Suffolk. The Trust achieved NHS Foundation Trust status as of 1st August 2006. The JPUH have been given an overall rating of “Good,” following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection which took place in July 2018. This places us in the top 30% of acute trusts in the country.
The department is equipped to a high standard and is fully digital with GE PACS in use since 2005, supported by a modern RIS (CRIS) which has been recently upgraded with voice recognition software. We are in the process of developing home reporting and network sharing capacity.
The main department has four general rooms, a dental room and two rooms with digital fluoroscopy, one of which is a C-Arm. Waiting facilities for patients have been recently upgraded and include a dedicated bed bay for the safe management of ward patients.
The ultrasound department has three new Philips IU22 and four Toshiba machines. Most recent additions include a Toshiba Aplio for nuchal scans in obstetrics and a Philips CX50 portable unit for community ultrasound.
The cross sectional imaging suite has 2 GE Lightspeed 16 slice CT scanners housed in separate suites for inpatient and outpatient work and a Siemens Avanto 1.5T MRI. Acquisition of a 128 slice CT scanner for cardiac imaging is under consideration.
Breast screening and symptomatic mammography services are provided and a major refurbishment of the breast imaging suite has recently been completed with installation of full field digital mammography equipment for both screening and symptomatic work.
We are looking for enthusiastic team players to join this progressive department with one of the best patient waiting times in the region. The appointee will be part of a team of ten consultants and will be involved in all aspects of departmental work. This will include involvement in multi-disciplinary team meetings for cancer body sites, including Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Lung, Haematology, Urology, Gynaecology, Head and Neck, and Thyroid.
The Department has a commitment to teaching undergraduates from the University Of East Anglia Joint Medical School and an interest in teaching would be an advantage. In addition Specialist Registrars from the Radiology Academy based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and at the Norwich Radiology Academy rotate through the department giving further opportunities for teaching.
James Paget University Hospital is a research active trust recruiting, on average, approximately 700 patients per year into studies. Participation in research is actively encouraged and supported by the Trust Board and Governing Body and we are particularly interested in recruiting clinicians with experience of applying for research grants both as named and lead applicants
We are located in Gorleston in Norfolk; a stone’s throw away from beautiful sandy beaches and just minutes from the Norfolk Broads and rural countryside, offering the perfect work life balance. The medieval town of Great Yarmouth and the nearby city of Norwich provide a large variety of cultural and culinary highlights.
