Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

The Governors of GCMS are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to start in September 2026.

The role is 37 hours per week, term time only plus 4 training days, and is initially for one year with a view to it being made permanent for the right candidate.

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking school, where pupils’ behaviour is consistently outstanding. We are part of the Gosforth Schools' Trust where there are opportunities to build common approaches to supporting SEND pupils' needs. We have vacancies due to increased numbers of pupils with high needs applying to our school.

Our staff work in first rate facilities with access to the newest technology. We are committed to staff well-being and our support team report feeling valued and well supported.

We would also welcome applicants with knowledge and experience of RRP (restorative and relational practice) and the PACE approach.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss the posts further, please contact Miss M Nicholson (Assistant Headteacher and SENCO) on 0191 285 1793 or email us at recruitment@gosforthcent.newcastle.sch.uk .

What the school offers its staff

• Our pupils are the motivation for all that we do at GCMS; we embed high aspirations and a growth mindset in all pupils.

• We are committed to excellence in teaching and learning offering ongoing professional development opportunities, enhanced PPA time, and a supportive and inclusive school community.

• Our truly broad and balanced curriculum is supported by excellent facilities, including a drama studio, separate sports hall, music room and science labs.

• We believe in equipping our pupils for the future and provide each child with a Chromebook to support their learning both at school and at home.

• Our school ethos is underpinned by restorative and relational practice

If the above resonates with you, we welcome your application.

Commitment to safeguarding

Gosforth Central Middle school is strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an enhanced DBS certificate and a range of other recruitment checks. As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be obtained and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise. We may carry out online searches as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates to identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online.
