Summary


We are looking for a practitioner psychologist to join the ICU unit at the Royal Free Hospital on a part-time basis. The ICU psychology provision started in 2021, following thewell-received input during the COVID pandemic. Its provision is focused on support for inpatients and valued others, as well as staff through consultations and reflective practice. The ICU Psychology Team is staffed by (0.5WTE 8C working Trust-wide, 0.6WTE 8B at Royal Free Hospital and 0.7WTE 8B at Barnet Hospital), as well as trainee psychologists and undergraduate students. The Royal Free unit has 46 beds and includes enhanced post-operative beds to support the complex surgeries undertaken.

While you will be embedded with your clinical speciality, you will also simultaneously belong to a group of over 50 Psychological Professionals working within a variety of medical specialities in Adult Clinical Services.

This post would suit an applied psychologist (clinical/counselling/health) with experience of working in a physical health or medical setting, ideally where you would have supported patients and valued others for difficulties, similar to those you might encounter within critical care. You will provide direct clinical input into well-developed multi-professional teams ofmedical staff, therapies (physiotherapy, OT, Dietetics, Speech and Language Therapy) and nursing colleagues, andcontribute to the comprehensive care of these patients within the Royal Free Hospital ICU.There are interdependencies with other clinical teams in the hospital, such as Liaison Psychiatry and the Palliative Care Team. The postholder would also be expected to contribute to the psychological professions across the Trust.

The post will provide you with a variety of career development opportunities, such as training, contributing to service development or quality improvement projects, as well as supervision of pre-qualified staff. You will have access to supervision and training, with a variety of different therapeutic modalities within the Trust. Research, audit and QI activity is positively encouraged and supported with opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues on a national and international scale.
