About Us

Blackhall Playgroup is a warm, friendly, community‐run early years setting based at St Columba’s Church in Blackhall. For over 40 years, we’ve provided a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children aged 2–4 can learn, play and thrive through child‐led, play‐based learning and outdoor exploration. We are now looking for a passionate, motivated and experienced Playgroup Manager to lead our small, dedicated team and help us continue delivering high‐quality early years care and education.

About the Role

As Playgroup Manager, you will oversee the day‐to‐day running of the setting and ensure we meet all Care Inspectorate standards and Scottish Government Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) requirements. You will also work in line with SSSC Codes of Practice, Health and Social Care Standards, and the Care Inspectorate Quality Improvement Framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading, supporting and inspiring staff to create a caring, inclusive and engaging environment
• Ensuring children’s individual needs are met and recorded in line with GIRFEC
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety and safeguarding
• Building strong, positive relationships with parents, carers, the committee and the wider community
• Overseeing planning, curriculum delivery and self‐evaluation in line with Realising the Ambition and Curriculum for Excellence (Early Level)
• Managing administrative tasks including budgeting, rotas, policy updates, risk assessments and Care Inspectorate documentation

• Happy to sing out of tune, get messy, and be fully present with the children each day

Essential Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum SCQF Level 7 (SVQ 3) in Social Services (Children and Young People) or equivalent
• Ideally SCQF Level 9 (BA Childhood Practice) or working towards this
• Registered with (or eligible to register with) the SSSC as a manager/lead practitioner
• PVG/Disclosure Scotland membership
• Experience working in an early years or playgroup setting, including supervisory responsibilities
• Ability to identify and deliver high‐quality provision in line with legislation, national guidance and theory
• Confident with IT and administration, including Microsoft Office 365
