Summary
Hours: Vacancy One 37.5 Hours Nights Vacancy Two 30 Hours Nights Vacancy Three 22.5 Hours Days Vacancy Four 15 Hours Nights Job Purpose: To provide a 24hours security portering service to the Kidderminster Hospital site. This will include the safety of buildings, staff, patients and visitors. To enhance the site by having a physical presence to deter any potential security issues. To work within the realms of security whilst using necessary force to protect buildings, staff, visitors and patients. Engage with staff at all levels to provide assistance and knowledge in aspects of personal safety and the safety of the buildings. Working together with nursing staff and where necessary using own initiative to achieve a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors and patients and members of the general public. General Portering duties of a routine and non-routine nature including delivering and collecting covering a wide spectrum of disciplines. Key Duties: To provide a comprehensive security/portering presence on site including site patrols to include building and car parks, wards and departments. The protection of staff and buildings during untoward incidents will be paramount. To undertake security duties to include locking up and unlocking, security checks of doors/windows within the building. Secure any doors/windows that pose a threat to security and report to Ward Manager/Estates Department. Secure any area which is vulnerable. To record any breaches of security and carry out initial assessment of area. Report findings to Portering Team Leader. Maintain a detailed log of patrols and any security breaches. Respond immediately to any 222 calls from Wards /Departments relating to security breaches or incidents and alarms. Promote security with the site through departmental visits. Directing, escorting patients, visitors and staff as required to cars or car parks. Ensuring drop off zones on site are regularly patrolled and warning notices issued where inappropriate or persistent offenders park. Liaise with emergency services and where necessary respond to fire alarms as detailed in the Fire Procedure. Maintain effective communication links through the correct use of radio, bleep and telephone systems using correct terminology and politeness. Make point of contact with Switchboard and regularly call in. Respond directly to fire/fire alarms and manage the front entrance to ensure no one enters the building etc. Assist the Fire Brigade to ensure buildings, staff and public are safe in the event of fire and where needed to evacuate. When carrying bleeps and radio respond as soon as possible to requests. Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times. Promote a customer focused approach to visitors by ensuring they are treated in a courteous and professional manner at all times ensure they are shown dignity and respect where required and assist them when needed. In accordance with the major incident plan carry out duties as detailed report to the MIU Department and receive directions from the Major Emergency Co-ordinator on site. Undertake relevant training as required (initial and on-going) depending on changes in law and specific policies and training of new security staff to the role when required. Perform any ad hoc duties within the department as requested by Portering Team Leader to maintain services. Observe all departmental policies/procedures and safe working practices at all times. Complete a daily radio check and report any radio faults to the Portering Team Leader. To respond to incidents at ward level within the hospital and under the direction of Nursing Staff take appropriate action. Where press, either radio/television, are on site ensure they are greeted and escorted as instructed by Trust Board/Communications Team to designated areas. Carry out duties in a responsible manner. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Familiar with Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information, Records Management. Attend court and give evidence on behalf of the Trust if and when required. Portering Duties as detailed below: Transport of patients between wards, MIU, Radiology as directed. Delivery of stores and supplies. Collection of refuse, clinical and household, distribution of same amongst the various disposal points to include black bags (household), yellow bag (clinical), soiled laundry, clean yellow bins. Changing of household and clinical waste bags whilst on night duty in the Outpatient and Imaging Department. Removal of waste bags to waste compound. Collection of blood for the wards (Ward 1, Millbrook and Renal). Movement of notes throughout the site as directed by Portering Team Leader. Changing of medical gas cylinders including reporting any defects: Replacing empty cylinders on wards and various emergency trolleys. Changing cylinders in storerooms. Operation of tipping machine and compacting machine for the disposal of household and clinical waste. Furniture movement as required. Collection of confidential waste bags from Wards and Departments. Delivery of food, catering supplies as and when required to Wards. Pathology collection rounds. Collection and delivery of pharmacy to Wards/Departments.
