14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete yourLevel 2 Customer Service apprenticeship qualification within the duration of the placement.
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is part of the Trust’s emergency care services and plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The service operates across three co-located units alongside a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service.
The team receives both internal and external referrals, ensuring patients are assessed, investigated, treated, and where appropriate discharged on the same day, supporting admission avoidance and improving patient flow across the hospital.
We are seeking an Apprentice Receptionist to join our established team within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). This is an excellent opportunity for someone to develop a high standard of administrative and receptionist skills within a fast-paced clinical environment.
The successful candidate will be supported to build a broad skill set, enabling them to confidently transfer their knowledge across multiple service areas. They will gain experience working across departments, providing clerical, receptionist, and ward clerk cover, and consistently demonstrating our Trust’s PRIDE values in all aspects of their role.

Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must be:
• Aged 16+
• Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
• Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
• Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship
Qualifications and Skills Required:
• Good general standard of education
• 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 or above
• Good standard of literacy and numeracy
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good IT skills

The Apprentice Receptionist will:
• Provide a professional and welcoming reception service to patients, relatives, and visitors
• Support administrative functions including patient bookings, data entry, and handling enquiries
• Work across AMU, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and associated areas, providing clerical and ward clerk support
• Assist with managing internal and external referrals in line with service processes
• Support the triage of patients to specialties twice daily, ensuring accurate and timely allocation in line with clinical guidance
• Act as a key point of communication between consultants, specialty teams, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and patients/visitors, ensuring information is shared clearly and effectively
• Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with Trust policies and confidentiality standards
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient flow and service delivery
• Demonstrate flexibility to support service needs across departments
• Undertake and complete the apprenticeship framework, applying learning into practice
